Its unfortunate to see that after reverting to ISLAM these people fall in the hands of crime again. Being a student of Psychology I dont blame them as they have no where to go, no belonging, no identity. In the process of "fitting in", they go back to the roads they had said no to. We as a muslim society should have programs or facilities in place which provide shelter and guidance to these people and show them the right path. Provide them education and training, which would help them land some decent jobs and turn themselves into promising individuals. It would be very hard I imagine to start a new life after one is out of the prsion, all eyes on you as you being an outcast. It would be a relief to know that I can go to a place where I wont be judged and would be accepted for who I am. I am not sure if there are any programs going on in our society but I am sure if we all try and do our part we will get there InshAllah. Salam Alaikum,

I think mere interaction with the brothers and sisters in prison would be a step in the right direction. It would make them more likely to seek integration into the community when they got out, and it would make the community less paranoid about ex-cons being part of the community. A really simple thing anyone can do is find a few people who would like to go visit the brothers/sisters in prison. You just have to contact the prison, fill out a form, wait for security clearance, and then go visit, usually during their Jumua prayers. You just attend the jumua like any other and then chat afterwards for half an hour or so.
