Last month, lives were lost, homes were destroyed and thousands were evacuated when Hurricane Sandy took its toll on the East Coast. Of course this isn’t the first hurricane or natural disaster this nation or planet has faced. And it definitely will not be the last.
This recent trend of earlier opening hours, now termed the “Thanksgiving Creep”, should make all of us reflect on what this says about our values and priorities. As Thanksgiving Creep cuts its way through family dinners and gatherings, Thanksgiving no longer becomes about giving “thanks” or spending time with loved ones, it becomes first about hunting for the best deals of the holiday sales.
UC Irvine students pass historic legislation urging divestment from human rights abuses in Israel
(IRVINE, CALIF., 11/13/2012) – In an historic move that could initiate a domino effect across America’s campuses, the Associated Students of UC Irvine voted unanimously to divest from companies that profit from Israel’s occupation of Palestine, including from companies that contribute to illegal settlement construction in the occupied Palestinian territories.
