U.S. President Donald Trump shocked the world when he posted an AI-generated video of “Trump Gaza.”

The simulated video depicts a golden statue of Trump in the middle of a bustling city, as well as Trump seemingly basking in the sun with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The “new and improved” Gaza seems to be based off Dubai, with the manmade resorts, beaches, and luxury aspect predominant in the video.

This proposed real estate project is an effort to take control of Gaza, transforming the Gaza strip into the “Riviera of the Middle East.” During a news conference with Netanyahu on February 4th, Trump claimed that he is committed to “buying and selling” the demolition site. Some of the reasons Trump claimed for this project include increasing U.S. revenue and “making sure that Hamas doesn’t move back.”

When asked about the trajectory of the Palestinians living in Gaza, Trump stated that the countries bordering Palestine, such as Egypt and Jordan, should take in the Palestinians. At this point, there is no indication that this project is intended to help Gazans resettle.

Trump constantly changes the narrative, saying that the bordering countries should take the Palestinians or this new project is being built for the Palestinians. Either way, this project is indicative of the U.S.’s historical goal of profiting off of the Middle East.

Unsurprisingly, as with many of Trump’s proposals, this also shocked many political leaders across the world.

U.S. Democrat Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut said that this project would “lead to the slaughter of thousands of U.S. troops and decades of war in the Middle East.” The Foreign Ministry of Saudi Arabia has refused to support Trump’s project and has threatened to sever relations with the U.S. without the creation of a Palestinian state. Hamas officials responded to the proposal saying that it was absurd, with Senior Hamas official Izzat al-Risheq saying the proposal “will only put oil on fire.”

Arguably, the Trump administration is the most expeditious body of power today, signing over seventy executive orders during the president’s first few months in office. However, it seems that their swift, reckless actions regarding the Middle East will encounter obstacles, as the world has already seen, and will cause resistance, dissent, and defiance to comply with the administration’s violations of human rights.

According to the Gaza Health Ministry, since October 2023, more than 45,000 Palestinians have been killed. How many more Palestinians have to fund this real estate project? How many more women, children, and families need to starve so that Trump can feed tourists? How many more Palestinians need to flee their home country so that Trump can create new homes for new people?
