I support Manjot Singh for General Representative because Singh understands his power comes from the people. He understands what students want and need and has the calm, strong demeanor to enact change on the council table and on campus. As a third year Global Studies Major, the current president of the Sikh Student Association, an intern for the Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund, a member of Unicamp, and a former staff member of the Cultural Affairs Commission, Singh is ready to implement effective platforms that he believes will benefit all students during their time at UCLA, and beyond.
Singh’s platforms include:
-
“Bruin’s Day Off”
-
a quarterly wellness festival with yoga, local musicians, and art therapy to help students take a break from academic stress
-
-
“Coffee and Conversations”
-
a safe space where student groups and professors can discuss hot-button issues of any kind while drinking hot coffee instead of keeping hot tempers
-
-
“The Hub”
-
a space on the Hill dedicated to showcasing local art and encouraging students to engage in cultural exchange and personal learning
-
Singh said this would “provide a space for students who don’t feel safe or comfortable talking about certain topics on campus.”
-
-
“Bruin Boost” (my favorite platform)
-
would consist of a quarterly workshop series on introduction to coding, photoshop skills, and public speaking that ensures students have the tools to stay competitive in an increasingly demanding post-graduate world, potentially providing benefit to students for years to come
-
From helping students recover from academic stress to providing a safe space for students to dialogue about important issues, Singh’s platforms are centered on the well-being of all students. Which is why, if elected, I am confident Singh would be working with students and for students.
I have had the privilege of getting to know Manjot Singh and he has proven to be an effective student leader and a qualified USAC candidate. Not only do I believe in his ability to represent, but the Daily Bruin along with the Pakistani Student Association, Sikh Student Association, Bruin Democrats, Bruin Republicans, and other organizations have endorsed Singh for General Representative. These endorsements, along with his platforms that would benefit all Bruins, prove to me and others that he has the qualities of a “True Bruin” and an understanding that his power would ultimately come from the students he represents.
