Salaam… it sounds like neither of the above interviewees has even watched the show?? It’s nothing like they’re describing & is actually an amazingly nuanced look at American Muslims. Literally the most positive portrayal I’ve ever seen in my life of Muslims in the media! Please interview people who have actually watched the show – I’m sure you will get a MUCH different response! Also, here’s a great article written by Khurram Dara in defense of arguments like the ones above: http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2011/11/28/my-take-defending-tlcs-all-american-muslim-against-muslim-complaints/
I actually have watched three episodes and really like the show. Its a slice of the American Muslim community and the show does a good job of developing the characters and presenting views. I totally understand what the person in the second video is saying about TLC. The channel has reality shows on obscure segments of the society. But to be frank, the Muslim community to the average american is an obscure part of the society. Wheither that is an accurate perception or not but it is the majority perception.
To have a show where Muslim Americans are portrayed as who they are is a really huge plus because I think many people will see our family values, humor, pleasent decorum and manners.
So yeah, I like the show and encourage people to watch it.
Assalam Alaikum!! JazakAllah khair for doing this. I was also wondering what were some opinions regarding this show. Al-Talib should maybe interview more people including non-muslims!!!
